and paul deanno are at mount diablo right now checking more than their tires. got to be cold up there, buddy. >> reporter: it is, yeah, and above 2500 feet a little up this hill in the mount diablo foothills currently it is going to be snowing tonight. two weather headlines. one, we will not have another freeze tonight because of the cloud cover because of the rainfall but headline 2 is that rain is not going to be rain. it's going to be snow, precipitation snowfall above 2500 feet. rain showers moving in. the bulk of the moisture is still offshore. down to the south bay you can see all that rain about to move in. things are moving west to east but check out the snowfall. that white that you see on the diablo range that is mount hamilton already picking up snow and that will continue for the next several hours. for that reason, the snow levels being so low tonight a winter weather advisory is in effect from 1:00 to 10:00 tomorrow morning but the snow has already begun in the east bay hills and santa cruz mountains two to four inches of total snowfall above 2500 feet. get out tomorrow

chief meteorologist paul deanno is in walnut creek tonight. we are going there again, huh? >> we are. >> the freeze warning is up for some of you. away from the water, just as cold as it was this morning. closer to the water, a couple of degrees milder. bottom line, below freezing for several hours once again. the mobile weather lab, down to 42 degrees, and we have lost 8 degrees off the high. as soon as the sun went down, the temperatures went down. the dew point, 18 degrees. that's bone dry air. you feeling it? maybe your hands are dry. your cold air over the bay area. freeze warning over the bay area. perhaps not as cold this morning. widespread, mid-20s low 30s. freemont, 32. san francisco dropping down to 42 once again. it's not just cold. we are talking snow. a winter when advisory is in effect for tomorrow night for the east bay hills, above 2500 feet, and we may likely see 2-4 inches of new snowfall as the storm passes built the impact of the snow in the sierra and talk about when it will finally, finally warm up. that's coming up in my full forecast coming up. >> paul, thank

. live in sunnyvale, len ramirez, kpix 5. >>> paul deanno is track the cold weather. >> this is cold that will envelope the entire bay area working its way down the western seaboard where it is right now crossing through the oregon-california border. it will get here by tomorrow. tonight is not the problem. tonight we'll have temperatures near normal will the slight chance of showers. let's fast forward to tomorrow night and wednesday morning. a widespread freeze is likely anywhere north of the golden gate and north of vallejo. all those areas shaded in yellow under a freeze watch as soon as tomorrow night with lows in the mid-20s to the low 30s. everybody will be colder with a more widespread freeze watch thursday morning. let's put this into perspective. the coldest day all of last winter in oakland was 50 degrees. the coldest day this week will also be 50 degrees. the coldest day last winter in san jose was 49. this week, 50 degrees. and the coldest day in livermore last winter 46. this week, 48 degrees. some of the coldest stuff we have seen in nearly a year. details on how long

, the man accused of going on a deadly rampage at l.a.x. will make his first court appearance. paul seeinvestigators say he targeted tsa officers when he pulled a semi-automatic rifle from a bag and opened fire inside terminal three on november 1. one tsa agent was killed. >> time for a closer look at weather. chilly. >> yes, very cold around parts of the bay area. feels nice, like the season finally looks like that cold air is sitting overhead now we'll see colder temperatures to come. out the door we go, temperatures chilly in spots. winds beginning to subside in some of the spots so the temperatures now getting colder. 31 in concord. 38 san jose. 30 san rafael and 30 in santa rosa. freeze warnings up for almost the entire bay area. expect lows to be dropping off in the 20s and 30s in many spots inland even 30s inside the bay. then looks like by the afternoon we'll keep you cool too highs only expected in the 50s maybe some 40s across some of the mountaintops. a little cooler tomorrow. then maybe some rain and maybe some snow on our mountains on friday. we'll have more on that in

for the season. what's the mobile weather lab registering now? our chief meteorologist paul deanno is out in the elements in castro valley. paul. >> reporter: liz, allen, it is certainly chilly. it was the coldest afternoon in the bay area on average since 5 days before valentine's day in early february. mobile weather lab in castro valley it is 46.8. it's already dropped three degrees in the past 20 minutes. when the sun goes down, temperatures drop like a rock. let's establish how warm or not we got today. san jose a high of 52. concord 51. napa 53. livermore only 51. setting the stage for a widespread freeze tonight, most of the bay area is under that freeze warning. the only exception is the city of san francisco. widespread lows in the mid-20s to the low 30s so watch out. protect plants if you can and make sure the pets come inside. these are some of your overnight lows. santa rosa tonight 24. tomorrow morning in livermore 25. concord 27. redwood city 30. so a widespread freeze is coming up. we sent len ramirez to gilroy today to talk about how the farmers are going to deal with this

of actor paul walker, police zero in on the cause of the crash. ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, passengers on the new york commuter train that jumped e >>> federal investigators are interviewing the crew and the passengers on that new york commuter train that jumped the tracks killing four people. reporter marlie hall explains speed may have been a factor. >> reporter: workers used cranes to upright train cars that toppled during the deadly crash. investigators from the national transportation safety board are looking for clues that might explain what caused the commuter train to jump the tracks. they are also analyzing the train's data recorders to determine if the engineer may have been going too fast as he rounded a bend. >> a curve like this has a speed limit and the speed limit was 30 miles an hour. at that speed, there should be no problem navigating the curve. >> reporter: the train's engineer william rockefeller, jr., has not yet spoken to investigators. a law enforcement source told cbs news, rockefeller informed first responders the brakes were not working properly. until the tracks are cle

of the cold, wind, rain, even snow, kpix 5's chief meteorologist paul deanno is at the foot of mount diablo for a preview of what's to dom. >> reporter: at 2500 feet and above it will be snowing tonight and may be right now. it just started raining here 10 minutes ago. temperature not that bad, 46 degrees. we had clear skies overnight hard freeze once again. then i want to show you some video of the ominous looking clouds that moved in after the lunch hour. rain moves in overnight tonight. here's kpix 5 high-def doppler radar. you see the showers working their way in from the north. we are going to zoom on down to mount diablo. guess what, already at the base of the mountain we are seeing rain showers and at the peak of the mountain we're seeing a rain-snow mixes and a winter weather advisory is in effect saturday tomorrow 1:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. above 25 hutch feet. we likely will see two to four inches of new snowfall. so get out tomorrow afternoon. you will see white on top of mount hamilton, mount st. helena and mount diablo. full forecast to talk about when more rain is going to move in a

paul deanno is in one of the coldest spots in the bay area tonight. paul? >> reporter: castro valley is going to be in the mid- to upper 20s tomorrow morning. temperatures dropping like a rock as soon as the sun went down. this very dry cold air we have is getting even colder. we are sitting at 50 about an hour and a half ago. the kpix 5 mobile weather lab showing we are down almost to 43 degrees. it is cold and getting colder. let's review the day first because we didn't really warm up much today, did we? in napa you had a high of 53. san jose 52. livermore and concord barely above 50 degrees for no more than 30 or 45 minutes. setting the stage for tonight, tonight will be a widespread freeze. the entire bay area with only the city of san francisco the exception. we are talking lows in the mid- 20s to the low 30s bringing the pets inside protect the plants if you can. these are some of the lows tonight. napa down to 25. redwood city 30. san jose you're going to hit 29. and livermore tonight 25 very cold degrees. some of you are saying, i don't like the cold. that's why i live in the

of the investigation into the crash that killed "fast & furious" actor paul walker and a friend in southern california. grieving fans are creating a memorial at the scene of saturday's crash in valencia. the 40-year-old walker was a passenger in his friend's porsche when they slammed into a pole. walker's "fast & furious" co- star tyrese gibson broke down when he visited the crash site.
